Measles re-circulated in Europe, despite its aim to eradicate the disease entirely on the continent by 2015. This was reported in the press release of the World Health Organization, ITAR-TASS reported.
During the first seven months of this year in Europe there were 26 000 cases of measles, which means the increase in the incidence by 276% over the same period in 2007. Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab described the spread of the disease as "a regional epidemic."
Even in Denmark, where measles is a rare disease, thanks to the triple vaccine, this year registered an unusual increase in cases of measles. WHO urges countries to Europe, Russia and Central Asian countries to take measures to prevent the spread of
the disease.
