The bag, which is designed under the twin's label, The Row, now has a wait list of more than two years with some suggesting it could signal the return of the backpack.
The alligator skin bag has sold out with 25-year-old Ashley saying the future of luxury items was looking bright despite the economic climate.
"It was the first thing that sold off the shelf," Ashley, told Women's Wear Daily at the bag's Paris launch in September.
"During our last economic crisis in the US, the only thing that went up was Hermes."
Hermes is the label responsible for the Birkin bag, a $40,000 crocodile skin bag that has achieved 'it' bag status amongst celebrities.
Like the Birkin, the purchase of The Row backpack is seen by fashion lovers as an investment.
“I think the bags are triple super chic,” Barneys’ fashion director, Amanda Brooks, told Fashionista.
"If you were ever going to spend $39,000 on a bag, that's the bag you should buy."
"There's enough design to make it interesting and beautiful but they truly are classic bags - and I think you also might be the only one who has it."
