Valencia-Alicante new coastal railway budgeted at 1.3 billion Euro

A protocol for collaboration on a plan to build a new coastal railway between Valencia and Alicante was signed on Tuesday at a meeting in Valencia between Development Minister José Blanco and the regional councillor for infrastructure, Isabel Bonig.

The budget for the project is some 1.3 billion €. The Generalitat de Valencia will fund the largest share of 770 million €, part of which will come from private investment. Central government will put 560 million € towards the project.

The Valencia government has already carried out preliminary studies and it’s understood that these findings will be taken into account when other studies get underway in around four months’ time. Europa Press indicates that these will include analyses of demand for the service, profitability and forecasts on traffic.
