Apples fall from sky
Apples Fall From The Sky: Fruity Shower Leaves Coventry Confused,Residents of Coventry have been left scratching their heads in bemusement after a shower of apples fell from the sky.
The hail of fruit came on Monday night and saw startled motorists braking sharply as the apples rained down into their paths and onto their bonnets.
More than 100 apples poured down over a main road in Keresley, in a downpour, believed to have been caused by a vortex created by the freak weather conditions.
Retired fork lift truck driver Dave Meakins initially thought children had thrown the apples as a prank.
He told the Daily Mail: “I assumed kids must have thrown them because we do get the occasional egg and apple thrown but there’s way too much for that.
"I honestly don’t know where the apples could have come from.”
One motorist told the Telegraph: “The apples fell out of the sky as if out of nowhere. They were small and green and hit the bonnet hard.
“There were other cars on the road at the time too and everyone had to stop their cars suddenly.”
According to the Met Office, it’s possible the apples were scooped up by a tornado.
Jim Dale, senior meteorologist from British Weather Services, said: “We’ve all heard of the fish and frogs falling from the sky and apples is certainly unusual because they have some weight to them but it is not out of the realms of possibility."
