Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt,Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag the Latest Broke Celebrities
"The Hills" stars Heidi Pratt and Spencer Pratt were the worst type of reality celebrities: they had cash, were delusional and people loved watching their trainwreck lifestyle.

Well, they did -- Pratt and Montag's star declined after Pratt was kicked off the show and Montag transformed into FrankenHeidi after her multiple plastic surgeries in late 2009.

We haven't heard much from the pair lately -- and now we know why: their offers have dried up and they've had to trade their million-dollar wardrobes for a rent-free living situation with Pratt's parents.

"What we learned is: You can be too famous," Pratt told The Daily Beast in a new interview. "We were living each other's mistakes'"everything we were doing, in retrospect, was a mistake. The second we continued on our quest for fame was a mistake."Their love of the high life took a huge toll on their finances.
"Now all we eat are tacos and burritos," Pratt revealed. "Whereas we used to eat at Cut."
"We're watching movies," Montag added of their new low-key lifestyle. "I do a lot of laundry. A lot of laundry. We're training our dogs, so I'm cleaning up less poop inside, which is great."
Pratt is even considering a return to college to finish his political science degree.

"What real job -- what political world -- would want Spencer Pratt, with the stigma I've attached to my name?" he said.

Pratt and Montag are hardly the first celebrities to fall on hard financial times, whether through their own doing or from the hands of others.

Heidi Montag was paid $65,000 an episode on "The Hills" but she and Spencer Pratt filed for bankruptcy after frittering away their entire multi-million dollar fortune.

The couple claimed they owed $2 million in taxes and were forced to move out of their luxurious California home, taking up residence with Pratt’s parents.

The Hills stars claim they wasted $10 million on various extravagances including Montag’s disastrous pop career and her numerous cosmetic surgeries, as well as six cars, designer clothes and trips on private jets.

And Pratt admits they should have been more careful with their money, telling Life & Style magazine, "We were immature, worrying too much about the famous part instead of the actual business part. In hindsight, we shouldn’t have spent any of our money. We should have been low-key and saved. We spoke with a bankruptcy attorney and I’ve looked into unemployment checks.

"We thought The Hills was going to be like 90210 and we’d have another five to 10 years… Our cast was a bit boring and snoozeworthy… No wonder we got cancelled… My parents are my lifeline."

More Celebs who went broke read

Lindsay Lohan

Actress Lindsay Lohan was on top of the world a few years ago: she had tons of movie offers and a lifestyle that many would love to have. Fast-forward to 2011: Lohan is now the butt of constant jokes about drug use and her legal bills and dwindling movie offers have put her in dire financial straits.

How dire? Lohan told a judge in July that she couldn't afford the mandated $1,100-a-month private counseling. Instead, her attorney argued, she could go for group therapy.

"I don't want group counseling for her, I want one-on-one," the judge said. "She needs to get into counseling, I'm going to give her 21 days...If she doesn't have the means, maybe she knows somebody who can help... find someone with a credit card who can help."

Guess her paycheck for the new John Gotti film can't come fast enough!

Mike Tyson

Champion boxer Mike Tyson earned over $300 million during his fighting career, but legal fees and extravagaent spending led Iron Mike to the poorhouse.

"I'm totally destitute and broke," Tyson told the ladies on "The View" in 2010.

"How did that happen?" co-host Joy Behar asked.

"I had a lot of fun. It just happened," he said. Boy, did he: Tyson owed $8,100 for tiger care and $65,000 for limos in just one month during 2002.

Now, Tyson is attempting to make back some of that cash with his reality show, "Taking on Tyson" and a rumored spot on the upcoming season of "Dancing With the Stars."

Willie Nelson

Country singer Willie Nelson is known for a lot of things, including his love of marijuana and his troubles with the IRS. The singer and sometimes actor owed the feds some $16.9 million in back taxes in the early 1990's. He avoided jail by releasing "The IRS Tapes: Who'll Buy My Memories" to pay back the cash.
